More than 100 people have filed lawsuits concerning AMO Complete MoisturePlus lens soluion and acanthamoeba keratitis. These lawsuits all alege that the contact lens solution caused the plaintiffs to develop a severe eye infection.
In 2007, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) tied an outbreak of acanthamoeba keratitis to AMO’s Complete MoisturePlus contact lens solution. This solution, like other products on the market, is an “all-in-one” multipurpose cleaner meaning that it is supposed to take care of all parts of cleaning a contact lens in one step and with one solution.
Following a drastic increase in the number of reported cases of acathamoeba keratitis in 2006, health investigators from the CDC began to get suspicious. They reviewed date from eye care centers across the country and found that people who used AMO’s Complete MoisturePlus solution had a 7 times greater chance of developing the potentially blinding infection.
Since this was announced, more than 100 separate lawsuits have been filed.
