Two different studies published in the American Academy of Ophthamology’s publication Ophthamology both identify buying contact lenses online as a risk factor for contact lens related eye infections.
Findings in the first study found that individuals who buy their lenses online are 4.76 times more likely to have problems with their eyes following contact lens use than individuals who do not buy their lenses online. In addition, it is suggested that those who buy their lenses online will also be less likely to follow good eye care practices resulting in a further increase in the risk of eye infections.
The second study found that the risk of eye infections was greater in people who wore Dailies by CIBA Vision and Soflens One Day by Bausch & Lomb. A third group of daily disposable lenses was also named.
