A product liability suit was filed earlier this month by a Texas woman against Advanced Medical Optics (AMO), alleging that the company’s Complete Moisture Plus contact lens solution caused her to develop a case of Acanthamoeba keratitis, an eye infection which can lead to blindness. Kimlyn Cline, who has worn contact lenses for 35 years, claimed that AMO was negligent because it knew about the problems with its Complete Moisture Plus solution, but failed to adequately warn the public or take action to correct the issue.

Cline’s suit seeks damages for medical expenses, lost wages, mental and emotional anguish, vision loss, visual disturbance, pain, and disfigurement. In addition, she is asking the court for exemplary damages to deter AMO from negligent behavior in the future.

AMO voluntarily recalled its Complete Moisture Plus solution in May 2007 in response to information linking it to an increased risk of eye infection.
