Seven more contact lens solution users have filed personal injury lawsuits for damages in state court in Los Angeles. The plantiffs all claimed to have suffered from Acanthamoeba keratitis, a condition caused from use of AMO’s Complete MoisturePlus Multipurpose contact lens solution.

Plantiffs say that AMO did not adequately notify consumers of the dangers associated with the Complete MoisturePlus contact lens solution. One plantiff, Debbie Wooten, spoke of her experience -

“The infestation in my left eye destroyed my cornea…the pain was unbearable. The microorganisms were chewing on my never endings.”

Debbie was a frequent user of the AMO contact lens solution and only ever used the product as instructed. AMO is also charged with creating a contact lens solution that was not effective in disinfecting contact lenses. Allegedy, AMO’s own data showed that the product was ineffective in preventing the growth of protozoa microorganisms, mainly “acanthamoeba”, which is directly linked to incidences of acanthamoeba kertatitis developing.
