AMO Contact-lens Solution Recall Worries Shareholders
September 19th, 2007 · No Comments
When a stock goes down 13% in one day, it’s enough to wake up shareholders and prompt them to ask lots of questions. This is the case with the Advanced Medial Optics, which is based in
Santa Ana,
California.
Their contact-lens solution, about 10% of AMO revenues, has been recalled.
The United States Centers for
Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) believes that the solution may be a factor in causing Acanthamoeba keratitis, which is a severe
eye infection that could lead to blindness.
AMO is not convinced that their solution causes this type of eye infection.
This is a “setback” for their business but AMO does not anticipate any of their many other products will be affected.
While they are determining whether there is indeed a link between their contact-lens solution and this eye infection, they have asked consumers to
discontinue using the Complete Moisture Plus Multi-Purpose Solution immediately and calling their 800 number. The CDC also stated that contact wearers who take care of their lenses properly can still develop the infection.
If you have used this solution, discard the lenses you have been cleaning with the solution as well the actual bottle of solution. At this point you may want to consult with a solution recall lawyer at Williams Kherkher. Call our firm at (866) 950-9000 to schedule a free initial consultation.
