The recalls in the United States have been issued because tainted contact lens solutions have been found to injure the contact wearer’s eyes.  In an interesting recall in France, Forbes reported on August 31, 2007 that Novartis AG unit Ciba Vision launched a recall of Solo-Care Aqua contact lens solution sold in France from Aug 25-30, citing possible sabotage of the product.

Ciba Vision said it does not know if the threat of sabotage has really been carried out, but no chances are being taken.  The French health and sanitary products regulator AFSSAPS said a French animal rights group has claimed to have contaminated 85 bottles of the contact lens solution with hydrogen peroxide.  It said the bottles affected were sold by the opticians’ chains Vision Original, Atol, Krys and Optical Center.
